Sprechfunk/Single Sideband Transmission SSB

Meine "Lehrjahre" startete ich Ende der 70er Jahre mit einem Allmode- Transceiver für 2m. Dazu gehörte auch Contestbetrieb auf den nahe gelegenen Bergen mit nur 10W und einer HB9CV. Als die Kurzwelle und Antennen installiert wurden, lag das Hauptinteresse natuergemäß auf weltweitem Funkverkehr.

I started my apprenticeship with a Multimode transceiver for 2 m at the end of the 70s. I also learned the contest mode during that time on the hills around my QTH with a rig of 10 W output and an HB9CV antenna. After having installed my short wave rig and the antennas, my main interest at the time was working hams around the world.

Telegrafie/ Telegraphy

Bald merkte ich, daß weltweite Verbindungen mit kleiner Leistung und Drahtantenne nur in Telegrafie gelingen. Meine erste DX-Verbindung gelang mir mit Handtaste und feuchten Fingern nach USA. Darauf war ich besonders stolz. Nun kam Spaß auf in CW und bald schaffte ich 500 CW-QSOs im Jahr. Das aber später mit einer elektronischen Taste ETM-3C.Die QSL-Karten der Verbindungen wurden für Diplome eingereicht und so gab es genug Anreize für neue Aktivitäten.

Very soon I found out that worldwide contacts would only be possible by using telegraphy which only requires a small amount of output power and wire antennas. My first DX contact with a hand keyer and sweaty palms was made to a US station. I was so proud of this connection. From then on I enjoyed CW so much that I worked more than 500 stations per year in telegraphy. An electronic keyer (ETM-3C) gave me a more comfortable use of this mode. Very soon I had many QSL cards to enable me to apply for my first awards, and then found sufficient stimulation for other activities.

Digitale Betriebsarten/ Digital operating modes

Ein Urlaub in Südtirol brachte mich 1991 zu Packet Radio! Dort zeigte mir Richard IN3BUB, wie schnell man per Computer in die Heimat connecten und mit Freunden dort chatten kann. Die Faszination war so groß, dass ich bald einen Laptop (mit Plasmabildschirm!) und ein 1k2 Modem besaß und über den heimischen Digi im 70-cm-Band "qrv" wurde. Nun, was auf UKW geht, sollte doch auch über KW möglich sein. Genau! Es bedarf nur eines PCs mit Soundkarte und einer Kurzwellenstation und schon chattet man mit Freunden in Australien, USA oder Südamerika. Für den Laien, ich spreche von PSK31 (phase shift keying), dem modernen Nachfolger von RTTY. Mit kleiner Leistung kommt man damit rund um die Welt. Auch das Schmalbandfernsehen SSTV (Slow Scan Television) gehört zu meinen bevorzugten Betriebsarten, kann man doch farbige Bilder weltweit innerhalb einer schmalen Bandbreite von nur 3 kHz übertragen.

During my holidays with my XYL in 1993 I got to know Richard, IN3BUB. He introduced me to packet radio and showed me how easy it was to make a contact to your home QTH and chat with your friends. I was so fascinated that shortly after my return to Germany I bought a second hand laptop with built-in plasma display and a 1k2 modem. The local digital repeater allowed me to make connections to f riends, and exchange mails. I thought there should be a way to do the same thing via HF. Exactly! It only needs a computer with built-in soundcard and an HF rig to chat with friends in Australia, USA or South America. I speak about PSK31 (phase shift keying) PSK-31, the modern form of RTTY. Only low power is needed for such chats around the world. Also one of my favorite operating modes is the so-called SSTV "Slow-Scan-Television", where you are able to transmit coloured pictures worldwide within a small bandwidth of only 3 kHz.

Diplome und Mitgliedschaften/ Awards & Memberships

Ich wurde bald Mitglied bei den Telegrafisten (AGCW 934) und nach 25 Diplomen auch bei der DIG (2741). Für meine Aktivität auf dem 10m-Band erhielt ich das Ten-Ten (10-X-36170). Über 100 Diplome kann ich meinen Besuchern präsentieren. Besonders stolz bin ich auf das DXCC für über 100 bestätigte Länder. Im Ortsverband Reutlingen P07, einer der größten in Baden-Württemberg, findet der Funkamateur Geselligkeit und zahlreiche Aktivitäten vor wie Vorträge, Bastelabende, Ausflüge, Teilnahme an Fielddays, Fuchsjagden und am Weihnachtsmarkt.

I became a member of the German telegraphy activity group (AGCW) and I also joined the diploma interest group (DIG) after having achieved 25 awards. I can show more than 100 awards to my f riends and I am very proud of having worked more than 100 countries for DXCC award. The local radio club of Reutlingen (DOK P07) which I joined is one of the greatest in Baden-Wuerttemberg. It offers you general get-togethers and numerous activitie such as lectures, electronic handicrafts, excursions, field days, fox hunting or participating in the Christmas market.

Wer mich nun einmal im Äther oder im Chat treffen möchte, findet mich am ehesten auf KW: montags um 10 Uhr in der YL-OM-Runde auf 7088 kHz, donnerstags um 18 Uhr UTC in der SSB-DIG-Runde auf 3.777 MHz
