Station Description

What’s the sanctum of a radio ham? Exactly, his wife. But directly after this, there’s his shack (if the order is the other way round, you  should have an intense thought about your preferences <beg>). Needless to say, I own several radio sets together with the necessary peripherals. As my sanctum - my wife, you know - would veto if these occupied the coffee table all time, I had to find another place for it. I found a place beside the dining table. There’s the desk with  my precious (gollum gollum!).

On this picture, the desk isn’t very tidy. You can see the antenna tuner, my FT-817 and my FT-450. Matching the  FT -817, I own a transistor PA with 150W (if you have to change from QRP to QRO - even if 150W still are QRP to some OM). I added a Kenwood TS-520SE some time ago, too.

But of what use is a radio without an antenna? I own a Diamond CP-6 to cover the shortwave bands. Using the MAC-200 it even works on the WARC bands. I also own several antennas for portable operation such as a HB9CV for 2m and so on. I will try to add my Big Wheel for 2m from time to time, mainly during contests. I also use a double quad on 6m occasionally. Although I could change easily to 100W output power, I try to remain at less than 10W effective radiated power compared to an isotropic radiator because of legal restrictions in Germany. Bu using the FT-450 portable, I can also use the 100W.

Due to my affection to CW, I developed over the years, I’d like to show you my Equipment for this mode.

My Paddle - it isn’t a very common one. It even isn’t designed to be pretty, but you can work easily because of the rake of 45 degrees of the levers. You won’t get tired as fast as you would using a “normal” paddle.

The keyer electronic I use meanwhile consist of a Winkey2-USB-kit you can get at www.funkamateur.de. I can use both radios without plugging and unplugging the keying line. And I can key the transmitter by my computer.
